I wanted something new I wanted to go to an English speaking country. New Zealand is very exotic for European people. It was something different. Most people go to England and America and I found that boring. I arrived last September and I was excited but my first impression was of cold and rain but I have found it is quite nice apart from the weather. Everyone is friendly and saying to you Hi and come along but you worry if they mean it. The Mia gave me her phone number and I felt secure and that was nice. Making friends is quite easy really. My host family are nice just from the start a bit different because they weren’t as tidy as my parents are, but nice, honest, yeah very direct. Now I am familiar like I know the way they want me to act its easier. One weird thing about New Zealand is that cars are driven on the left hand side of the road. That’s weird. Vegemite and marmite are so weird. I can’t believe people really eat that. That is what we put in our soups to make it taste stronger and over here you eat it on toast. I don’t want to insult New Zealand people but that is so weird. As soon as I saw it I thought it was Nutella because it was brownish but I got a shock. Mostly, though the food is pretty good. I like caremello chocolate and fish and chips but I have pineapple rings cause I don’t eat fish. One good thing is that people can dress the way they want to – there is heaps more alternatively dressed people. Its not that Germany is stricter, but over there they are all punks hanging out on the street. Here they are just normal people looking different. I got dreads and dyed my hair. My parents will not expect that but it is going to be fine. The school’s pretty good. The teaching is way better than my school in Germany even though it is a very good school. The teachers here are really interested in their students and make things interesting.
